Noun Declensions — Fiche d'exercices de Latin
Latin nouns change form (decline) to show their role in a sentence — subject, direct object, possession, etc. Cases include nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, ablative, and vocative.
First declension nouns (mostly feminine, like puella) use -a endings: puella (nom.), puellae (gen.), puellae (dat.), puellam (acc.). Second declension masculine (dominus): dominus, domini, domino, dominum.
The genitive singular ending identifies declension: -ae (1st), -i (2nd). Memorize the case endings to translate accurately — word order is flexible because endings show function.
